About me
My name is Tormod, I live in Oslo, Norway, and I am a book freak! I’ve been reading books since forever. I also belong to the type of people that hoards…well, everything. My wife and I love books. Once we went to London with a small backpack and a huge, empty bag – and returned with 22 kilos of books (we almost had to pay for overweight luggage).
About four years ago I bought a second hand Palm Tungsten E, with the intention to use it as a calendar. I accidentally discovered eReader. My first thought was “this will never work for me”. I thought all books simply had to be on paper.
I decided to give it a shot, though. I bought Stephen Baxter’s Coalescent (it’s the first book in his Children of Destiny trilogy, which currently as four parts…). On the local train commute back home from work that day I started reading…and I have never looked back. In the past four years I can have read over 100 ebooks on my digital readers.
The Palm E was worn out after all the reading, so I replaced it with a Palm T|X. It has been a happy relationship. The Palm T|X is a wonderful reading platform, with a large touch screen and it sits comfortably in the hand.
But after I bought an iPod Touch (16GB) in 2007, I was astonished to learn that while it had a screen that was vastly superior to the Palm T|X, there were no commercial book readers for it. Sure, I could read free ebooks, but since my collection of bought ebooks now is well above 100, I began waiting for eReader to do something.
Finally, this summer the first version of eReader for iPod/Iphone came out. Version 1 wasn’t very good. But the first revised version (1.1) let me invert the screen so I could read white on black, which I favor since backlit LCD means that white pages are too bright for me. Version 1.2 added more features and soon it will be almost equivalent to the Palm.
I now do all my reading on the iPod. This blog is where I share my reading experiences, and will provide tips and advice for people who want to use their iPod or iPhone for reading commercial ebooks.
Please feel free to give me your own thoughts and comments as well! I am always happy to hear from fellow digital junkies.
